Seth Glier's "The Next Right Thing" garners GRAMMY® nomination

New York, NY - Seth Glier's critically acclaimed work The Next Right Thing (MPress Records, 2011) has been nominated for a GRAMMY® Award for Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical. This is a fantastic honor and first-time nomination for the rising artist/producer, who recorded all of his vocals himself at his own project studio. Engineering team members for The Next Right Thing include Kevin Killen (five-time GRAMMY® winner, four-time nominee), Brendan Muldowney (first time nominee) and John Shyloski (one-time nominee). The 54th Annual GRAMMY® Awards will air live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles on February 12, 2012.

After learning of his nomination on Twitter, Glier said "I know its cliché to say that it's an honor just to be nominated, but it really is an HONOR! This nomination has everything to do with the fabulous team I work with in the studio, on the road and at my record label." The Next Right Thing was released Jan 11, 2011 on MPress Records. It was recorded at The Carriage House studio in Stamford, CT, with additional overdubs completed in Glier's basement in Shelburne Falls, MA. Co-produced with Glier's long-time collaborator, Ryan Hommel, it was recorded by Brendan Muldowney, and mixed by GRAMMY® winner Kevin Killen (U2, Elvis Costello) as well as by John Shyloski (Beyoncé, Johnny Winter), who also mastered the album.

This 2011 GRAMMY® nomination tops off great accomplishments and highlights for Glier this year, including a 2011 Independent Music Award. The Next Right Thing, his sophomore release for MPress Records, has received accolades and comparisons to Bruce Springsteen and Billy Joel by USA Today, and was added to over 150 radio stations. The track"Lauralee" was recommended by USA Today in their "Listen Up Playlist" (Feb 2011) and was propelled to #1 on Clear Channel's NEW! Discover & Uncover. His music video for the second single "Walk Katie Home" premiered on USA Today (July 2011) and he toured with talents like Edwin McCain, Ani DiFranco and Martin Sexton.

2012 will prove to be another exciting year for Glier. He begins pre-production for his third MPress release in January, and will be performing at the 35th Annual Ann Arbor Folk Festival with Ryan Adams, Emmylou Harris and more; in addition, Glier will make his West Coast debut touring with folk icon Ani DiFranco in March.

USA Today To Premiere Seth Glier's "Walk Katie Home" Music Video

Rising folk sensation premieres video and adds exciting new tour dates.

MPress Records & USA Today are thrilled to premiere the official music video for singer-songwriter Seth Glier's new single "Walk Katie Home" from his critically acclaimed album THE NEXT RIGHT THING (MPress, 2011).

The video was created by award-winning director, photographer & visionary Tom Moore, who also shot the cover image for Seth's record and has worked with Williem DaFoe, Bebe Neuwirth, Quentin Crisp, Ed Asner & Gloria Gaynor, among others.

Shot on a freezing cold day this past March at the strikingly beautiful Beacon Theatre in Beacon, NY - which was undergoing a complete restoration - the video boasts grand sweeping images of the gorgeous theatre mixed with shots of NYC, the second character in this unabashedly romantic and tender love song. Featuring Seth Glier and his love interest "Katie" played by up-and-coming actress Carissa Dagenais, the emotion of the video was heightened by Glier's visible breath in the performance shots at the ice-cold theatre (which is real, not added in post-production).

With a plethora of behind-the-scenes footage & still images, Seth put together some fun teasers for the video which you can see on his YouTube channel. The teasers document the freezing good times they had during the shoot.

As part of his robust summer tour schedule, Seth is currently on tour in the Northeast with singer songwriter Edwin McCain, who launched a thousand weddings (courtesy of his Top 5 single “I’ll Be”). Glier will also be hitting the road for a few dates with Toad the Wet Sprocket, later this summer. Full tour dates listed below or at sethglier.com

MPress Records & BLURT Magazine present: Seth Glier's "The Next Right Thing" Official Video

MPress Records has teamed up with BLURT Magazine to premiere the official music video for the title track off of singer-songwriter and 2011 Independent Music Award Winner Seth Glier's critically acclaimed "The Next Right Thing".

Watch the preimere on BLURT Magazine now!

Directed by Zack Sweeney in the streets and subways of NYC, the video emulates the theme with its organic feel and speaks to the simple yet powerful message in the song, which Culture Mob says "immediately resonates with its very present percussion and soulful, incendiary vocals. The song paves the way for the overarching theme of the album- doing the next right thing- thinking outside of yourself to change the world for the better despite life’s constant challenges."

BLURT recently ran a fantastic review of the record release on MPress Records in January 2011. They gave the album 7 stars and raved "...this material sounds like nothing if not classics in waiting...its the essence of perfection". Read the entire glowing review here.

About Seth Glier:

"The greatest pop songwriting since Billy Joel." - Livingston Taylor

Seth Glier will grab you...if not with his powerful falsetto or his melodic prowess, then with what Performer Magazine calls his “intoxicating groove.” The 22-year-old singer, pianist and guitarist – who abandoned studies at The Berklee College of Music after one year because he “decided I should be playing for people and not for grades” – aims straight for the gut & has quickly established himself on the national scene performing over 250 shows a year.

In 2010, Glier shared stages with such diverse artists as James Taylor, Mark Knopfler, The Verve Pipe, and Edwin McCain. He has appeared as a mainstage artist at the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival (NY) and the Kerrville Folk Festival (TX). USA Today recently compared Seth to Bruce Springsteen and Billy Joel and recommended his track “Lauralee” on their “Listen Up Playlist” (Feb 2011).

The only musical member of his family, Seth was raised on the music of Joni Mitchell, Martin Sexton and Randy Newman, but considers his brother to be his greatest influence. “My brother is autistic and non-verbal. I learned to communicate with words better once I realized how to communicate to someone without them.” Maybe the term ‘old soul’ has meaning after all…

Seth Glier "Channels Billy Joel" On Upcoming MPress Records CD

"Rising Folk Sensation," Seth Glier's "The Next Right Thing" To Be Released Jan 11, 2011

Singer Seth Glier has expanded his 2010/2011 U.S. Tour, with dates now confirmed through May of next year. Praised as a "rising folk sensation," Glier looks forward to the January 11th release of his MPress CD 'The Next Right Thing', and recently offered fans a sneak peek at two of the tracks during a tour appearance on FoxTV.

In a rave review via tastemaker site BLOGCRITICS, Jack Goodstein praised "His music is melodically rich. His lyrics are as complex and suggestive as the best of the poets". Read the full review here.

Glier's idealism and his sensitivity as a songwriter complement his soaring falsetto, as the new album finds the 21-year old phenom sculpting songs that seek to create and emotional connetion, even as his dreams of a fragile Utopia remain unrealized. Listen to a streaming sampler, here: http://www.sethcohenpr.com/player/sethglier2011/

Glier has earned consistent praise since the release of his MPress Debut, 2009's 'The Trouble With People'. Critics have described him as having "the vocal prowess of a perfomer with a lifetime of singing experience" and as a "huge musical talent." College Music Journal (CMJ) describes Glier's music as "perfect vocals paired with immense instrumental talent on piano..." The sophomore album draws inspiration from unlikely sources - from Michael J. Fox to organized religion, from a loved one's dementia, to witnessing a friend's shallow embrace of fame. Glier's complex family relationships have long shaped his musical journey, with his brother considered to be his greatest influence. "My brother is autistic and non-verbal. I learned to communicate with words better once I realized how to communicate without them."

As for the focus track, "Lauralee," BLOGCRITICS describes the song as "an anthem about lost love which channels both Billy Joel and Bruce Springsteen... a tune with real pop hit potential." Watch Glier's video about the making of "Lauralee", the first of a six-part webseries about The Next Right Thing, on his YouTube Channel. Fans can also download the track for free here.

Glier is an environmentalist and an altruist who uses his music to make a difference. His 'green' tour last year was a huge success, and featured Glier traveling from town-to-town in a hybrid vehicle, planting trees in each city he visited, promoting carpools for fans, selling merch made of organic materials and more. He is also an advocate of performing in Hospitals, Nursing Homes and Elementary Schools, and for his current "Light It Up, Let It Go Tour," he is joining forces with Musicians On Call & local charities, hosting special "Light It Up" events including autism benefits & songwriting workshops. See the FoxTV clip for Glier's comments on the tour.

    About Seth Glier:

Singer-songwriter Glier's powerful, silky voice catches you off guard, like the first time you heard Simply Red's Mick Hucknall sing 'Holding Back The Years.' The prodigious 21-year old's diverse music showcases his soaring falsetto, as well as a Cat Stevens-esque style of hushed storytelling.

Boston-based Glier was raised on the music of James Taylor, Randy Newman & Joni Mitchell. In 2010 he was invited to perform with his idol James Taylor, and shared stages with such diverse artists as Edwin McCain, Mark Knopfler, The Verve Pipe and Livingston Taylor. Edwin McCain enjoyed Seth so much that he contributed backing vocals on "I Don't Need You" (THE NEXT RIGHT THING, 2011) and raved "If any of you are wondering what the future of music will look like, Seth is it." Since the release of MPRESS debut "The Trouble With People" in late 2009, singer-songwriter Seth Glier has learned a lot more about the impact of music on his community, his fans and himself. Coming into his own as a writer & performer, Glier is making a name for himself on the national scene, and has appeard as a mainstage artist at the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival and the Kerrville Folk Festival. Glier tours as a green artist, traveling in a hybrid vehicle, selling organic merchanidse and encourages his fans to live green. MPress Recoreds will be releaseing "The Next Right Thing" in early 2011.

"The greatest pop songwriting since Billy Joel" - Livingston Taylor
"If Seth isn't destined for huge super stardom then no one is" - Livingston Taylor
"Seth is a great singer, great pianist and this record has the magic beans" - Stephen Kellogg
"Talent like Seth Glier's bring out the psychic in all of us... He's gonna be huge." - Ellis Paul
"Seth Glier is a young writer who has already experienced many of life's travails. His musical exuberance shines through his compositions regardless of the subject matter. The songs are direct and catchy and his vocal delivery compells your attention. Seth is naturally effervescent and fearless and his gift will surely reach the wider audience it deserves." MPress Records' Artist Seth Glier Shapes Thoughtful Sophomore CD

Seth Glier's "The Next Right Thing" to be released Jan 11, 2011

Singer Seth Glier sculpts songs that seek to create an emotional connection, even as his dreams of a fragile Utopia remain unrealized, on his impressive sophomore CD, 'The Next Right Thing'.

The 21-year old phenom's distinctive falsetto has lead critics to praise him as having "the vocal prowess of a perfomer with a lifetime of singing experience" and as a "huge musical talent." College Music Journal (CMJ) describes Glier's music as "perfect vocals paired with immense instrumental talent on piano..." The upcoming CD, his second on MPress Records, lives up to the hype. The album draws inspiration from unlikely sources - from Michael J. Fox to organized religion, from a loved one's dementia, to witnessing a friend's shallow embrace of fame - all the while, the songs reflect Glier's maturity as a writer and his staunch idealism.

'The Next Right Thing' will be release in early 2011, and will be accompanied by a major U.S. Tour. Listen to a streaming sampler, here: http://www.sethcohenpr.com/player/sethglier2011/

Glier's complex family relationships have long shaped his musical journey, with his brother considered to be his greatest influence. "My brother is autistic and non-verbal. I learned to communicate with words better once I realized how to communicate without them." On the new song 'Down With This Ship', Glier chronicles a loved one's decent into dementia, and his skeptical response to financial efforts to secure a spot in the afterlife. As for the title track, Glier recalls, "I had watched Michael J. Fox's "Hope For An Incurable Optimist" on the A&E Channel. There was a scene where Fox (...was) talking about a utopian world of people who concerned themselves with "doing the next right thing as opposed to doing the next thing right." That quickly became a mantra as I traveled and toured." Glier wrote the song "First" after performing over 240 concerts in 2010: "this one is about coming home and suddenly everything you knew for so long looks different. The fact is that the only thing that changed and was different was me."

Glier is an environmentalist and an altruist who uses his music to make a difference. His 'green' tour last year (in support of his acclaimed CD 'The Trouble With People,') was a huge success, and featured Glier traveling from town-to-town in a hybrid vehicle, planting trees in each city he visited, promoting carpools for fans, selling merch made of organic materials and more. He is also an advocate of performing in Hospitals, Nursing Homes and Elementary Schools, and, prior to the release of 'The Next Right Thing,' he will embark on the "Light It Up, Let It Go Tour," joining forces with Musicians On Call & local charities this Fall. Glier says, "For me, the 'Light It Up, Let It Go Tour' is about renewing and regenerating oneself. Its about letting go of the stage lights, monitor mixes, dressing rooms and tour gear, and using pure simple music to light up the people and places who need it the most." In addition to clinic performance, Glier will host special "Light It Up" events including autism benefits & songwriting workshops. Visit: www.musiciansoncall.com

MPress Records' Artist Seth Glier To Embark on the "Light It Up, Let It Go Tour"

Singer-songwriter joins forces with Musicians On Call & local charities for fall tour

Songsmith, altruist & environmentalist Seth Glier combines all his passions for his run this fall. The "Light It Up, Let It Go Tour" kicks off in NYC at the Rockwood Music Hall on Sept. 24th and includes music from his forthcoming release "The Next Right Thing" (MPress Records - 2011), as well as highlights from his current album "The Trouble With People". In addition, the tour will feature special "Light It Up" events that make this different from any other tour.

Glier, who joined forces with Musicians On Call earlier this year for his "Rock For Rooms Residency", is partnering up with them again for his fall tour. The impact that visiting and performing for patients in clinics has had on the singer, inspired the premise for this tour. "For me, the 'Light It Up, Let It Go Tour' is about renewing and regenerating oneself. It's about letting go of the stage lights, monitor mixes, dressing rooms and tour gear, and using pure simple music to light up the people and places who need it the most," said Glier.

However, there is more to this tour than the clinic performances. Glier will also be hosting special "Light It Up" events including autism benefits & songwriting workshops. Showcasing some of the new music that he's crafted for his second album "The Next Right Thing" due out in January 2011 on MPress Records. More events and shows are being confirmed for the "Light it up, Let it go Tour"; stay tuned by signing up for his mailing list, and be the first to hear about the new dates and the upcoming video campaign for "The Next Right Thing."

Upon signing Glier, Sage brought in Grammy® Winner Kevin Killen (U2, Tori Amos, Elvis Costello), to re-mix Glier’s original tracks, which he’d famously recorded in his basement over a three-month stretch. Highlights of the album include the soaring ‘Gotta Get Away’, the Beatles-influenced instrumentation on ‘Naia’, Glier’s commanding title track, and the insightful ‘Someone Else To Crown’.

Glier's accomplishments surpass his age -- he has performed hundreds of shows, including a set for more than 25,000 people on the National Mall in Washington D.C. Livingston Taylor says “Listening to Seth's music gives me hope for what's to come. The next generation is alive and well.”

Glier released several DIY albums before catching the attention of MPress founder Rachael Sage last fall. Upon signing Glier, Sage brought in Grammy® Winner Kevin Killen (U2, Tori Amos, Elvis Costello), to re-mix Glier's original tracks, which he'd famously recorded in his basement over a three-month stretch. Highlights of the album include the soaring 'Gotta Get Away', the Beatles-influenced instrumentation on 'Naia', Glier's commanding title track, and the insightful 'Someone Else To Crown'.

    For Immediate Release

20-Year-Old Seth Glier Has a Voice for the Ages on New Album "The Trouble With People"

MPress Records Sets Digital Release for October 6th & Retail Releast for November 3rd; Major Tour is Set

20-year old Seth Glier’s voice catches you off guard, like the first time you heard Simply Red’s Mick Hucknall sing ‘Holding Back The Years’. Glier backs up this ‘aha’ moment with an album’s worth of diverse material – showcasing his rich falsetto, his Cat Stevens-esque hushed storytelling, and a prodigious vocal range in between.

On November 3rd, MPress Records will release Glier’s "The Trouble With People", featuring 12 original songs by the multi-instrumentalist/pianist. The brick-and-mortar release will be preceded by an October 6th digital-only version, via iTunes. This will be Glier’s label debut, following a series of DIY albums.

Singer-songwriter Glier was raised on the music of Joni Mitchell, Martin Sexton, and Jeff Buckley, but he considers his brother to be his greatest influence. “My brother is autistic and non-verbal. I learned to communicate with words better once I realized how to communicate to someone without them.”

Perhaps it’s that unique sensitivity that gives Glier’s songwriting such resonance. Much like Shawn Colvin’s "A Few Small Repairs", Glier’s folk/pop album weaves understated tales of real people in quiet pain. It’s a sophisticated collection that shows surprising maturity and self-reflection. Maybe the term ‘old soul’ has meaning after all…

Perhaps CD Baby said it best, as Seth Glier’s DIY years unfolded: "When it comes down to Seth’s music, either you love it or you've never heard it before.”
